Following a two-month-long trial, former Berkeley mayoral candidate and Direct Action Everywhere, or DxE, co-founder Wayne Hsiung has been charged with misdemeanor trespass with intent to interfere with a lawful business for unlawfully entering Sunrise and Reichardt Farms in Sonoma County in 2018 and 2019.

Direct Action Everywhere affiliated activists facing felony and misdemeanor charges for animal rescues are still under a gag order from the judge after calls to vacate the order from the ACLU and Berkeley Law Dean Erwin Chemerinsky.

Defendants Cassandra King, Wayne Hsiung, and Priya Sawhney have recently received adjusted charges and been issued a gag order by the court.

Activists affiliated with animal rights group Direct Action Everywhere, or DxE, are facing felony and misdemeanor charges for allegedly trespassing on the land of farms in Petaluma, California and removing several chickens and ducks from the facilities. Their trial will begin Sept. 8 at the Santa Rosa Courthouse.

Longtime Berkeley activist Wayne Hsiung was convicted of larceny and breaking and entering Monday for taking a sick goat from a North Carolina meat farm in Feb. 2018.

As Alameda County finishes counting ballots, results from the 2020 general elections largely remain consistent with initial tallies.

Incumbent Jesse Arreguín is leading the race for Berkeley mayor with 64.92% of the vote, defeating candidates Wayne Hsiung, Aidan Hill and Naomi Pete as of press time.

Arreguín has served as mayor with respect and awareness, and he will only improve to better support the city of Berkeley.

The ASUC Office of the External Affairs Vice President hosted a virtual town hall Monday night to ask Berkeley’s three mayoral candidates —  incumbent Mayor Jesse Arreguín, Wayne Hsiung and Aidan Hill — about their platforms, especially those regarding student issues.

As the Berkeley mayoral race enters its final month, candidates explained their campaigns’ platforms and fundraising strategies.
