Anti-Asian hate crimes have risen significantly during the coronavirus pandemic, with reporting database Stop AAPI Hate receiving almost 3,000 accounts of hate crimes since last spring.

A battery occurred at about noon Thursday involving a campus employee, according to public log information provided by UCPD spokesperson Sgt. Sabrina Reich.

Berkeley Police Department announced that it is looking to hire more police officers in a press release Thursday — an announcement that comes during a prolonged period of understaffing for the department.

Berkeley City Council will hold a special meeting Tuesday to determine whether Berkeley Police Department will continue participating in Urban Shield.

UCPD spokesperson Sgt. Sabrina Reich said the exact cause of the power outage was currently being investigated and that the power outage resulted in multiple fire alarms being set off in campus buildings due to fumes and smoke from backup power generators.
