Physical distancing measures and remote learning may be exacerbating disordered eating, as well as food insecurity, among students.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the UC Berkeley Food Pantry and the Berkeley Student Food Collective, or BSFC, have adjusted their health and safety standards to provide food and other resources to campus and the Berkeley community.

UC Berkeley football senior defensive back Elijah Hicks founded the Intercept Poverty COVID-19 Campaign to raise money for low-income families across the country facing food insecurity. Hicks partnered with the No Kid Hungry foundation to create his campaign.

University Health Services is honoring National Eating Disorders Awareness Week from Feb. 24-28 with events and demonstrations, educating the UC Berkeley campus about eating disorders.

UC Berkeley’s Basic Needs Center announced Thursday that international students will now be eligible for campus emergency rental assistance and the campus Food Assistance Program.

The Bay Area is experiencing a housing crisis, and UC Berkeley students are not unscathed. California legislators and local activists, however, are working to increase low-cost housing for students, and resources are available on campus to aid people struggling with housing insecurity.
