Cal League of Legends stands on the edge of making the College League of Legends Championship, a first in Cal history. Does this team have what it takes?

The Thunderbirds are known as one of the best collegiate rugby teams in Canada, if not the best — and have gone 13-3 overall this season.

The Bears matched the University of British Columbia's physicality and tenaciously chipped at the UBC defense, ultimately winning 36-21.

The University of British Columbia, which is widely known as one of the top collegiate teams in Canada, and Cal have a history of competitive matchups.

Both teams scored four tries in the match, but similarly to the teams’ last two matchups in Berkeley, both close victories for Cal, conversions and goal kicks were the deciding factors in victory.

The pair of weekend wins will carry into the Bears’ game against the Broncos — a game in which many of the players who didn’t get a lot of field time over the weekend will see big minutes.

Unlike previous years, the Bears had a high scoring outing against UBC, recording their most points since scoring 46 in 2012’s matchup in Vancouver.

The “World Series” has been an important rivalry throughout the years, but UBC’s decision to keep older players on its roster has hindered the Bears’ recent results, giving the Thunderbirds an advantage.
