Super 8 motel

Encampment residents at Harrison and Eighth Street were granted a temporary restraining order against the city of Berkeley on Sept. 5, momentarily preventing the city from clearing the encampment. 

Berkeley City Council passed a slew of legislation at its Tuesday regular meeting, including massive funding for affordable housing, expanded supportive housing and a step toward decriminalizing plant-based psychedelics.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a $200 million budget to address homelessness in California Wednesday, including a $4.9 million allocation to convert the Super 8 motel on University Ave. into permanent housing, according to a press release from the office of Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguín.
