The Daily Californian did report in a past article that the UC had ongoing efforts to increase faculty diversity, which UC Office of the President Stephanie Beechem also reiterated.

Students urged the regents to include students in budgetary efforts at earlier stages and emphasized taking the student experience into account.

The eight protesters stayed for two hours and directed their anger toward the university’s Title IX office, which they repeatedly said involves a broken, inept process. They also criticized the UC system, saying administrators failed to deal properly with cases of sexual misconduct involving faculty.

Student regent Devon Graves said he expects that on Wednesday, the regents will continue to support their current enrollment policy welcoming nonresident students in addition to rather than in place of California residents.

The UC system will receive $177.1 million in one-time general funding and $97.1 million in ongoing funds for the 2018-19 fiscal year, as outlined in a provisional state budget agreement reached by Gov. Jerry Brown and state legislative leaders Friday.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3299 union's strike was organized after members were forced to sign a contract with terms the union had rejected. Lead UC Berkeley AFSCME organizer Libertad Ayala addressed the crowd, saying the UC now understands the impact of the workers’ absence.

When students think of UC Berkeley’s funding, their minds often jump to tuition — but among its various revenue streams, such as federal and state grants, the campus's largest and most stable contributions come in the form of endowments, currently valued at $4.3 billion.

AFSCME Local 3299 spokesperson John de los Angeles called the strike a reaction to the UC’s decision on April 20 to impose union contract terms after a year of negotiation and a lack of agreement between the two groups.

Negotiations between the two parties began February 28 at the UC Office of the President, or UCOP, statewide office in Berkeley.
