Stanford men's soccer

Cal has one more opportunity to show out in front of its home crowd on Saturday as it closes out the 2022 season against Stanford.

Cal came out of the locker room guns blazing. In the first half, Stanford was the one applying the pressure and controlling possession. In the first ten minutes of the second half, however, it looked as if Cal was the ranked team, as it had Stanford on its heels.

This week, the Big Game won’t be happening on the football field but instead the fútbol field. Cal Men’s Soccer travels to Stanford to add another chapter to one of the oldest rivalries in sports.

Surprisingly enough, the Bears did not allow a single goal from open play. Instead, all three Cardinal goals came off of set pieces.

Junqua’s wide kick was placed perfectly in the center of the crowded box, allowing Nuphaus to sneak behind two Cardinal defenders for a diving header, driving the ball to the top of the near post.
