Hoping to rebound from recent losses, the Bears had high hopes for their games against UCLA and USC. After two more losses, however, Cal now sits at a league-worst 16-loss streak.

The last time fans saw this matchup Oct. 21, Cal delivered a surprisingly aggressive and sturdy fight, forcing the Trojans to fight on and fight hard for every point.

The tandem adds to the youth movement in the East Bay, where Cal (7-17) sports only one senior – opposite Sydney Lilomaiava.

Fans in attendance on Sunday afternoon couldn’t believe what they were seeing. The blue and gold won the first two sets, forcing Utah to burn four timeouts.

Both Colorado and Utah swept Cal off its feet in earlier matchups this season. Fortunately for the blue and gold, those losses came on the road – potentially opening the door for a revenge tour back home.

Cal had an impressively strong defense through the first set, with Tara DeSa picking up hit after hit, tip after tip. Although USC maintained the lead throughout most of the set, the points they earned, were fought for harder than they must have expected.

The Bears were swept in Tucson, just as they were in Tempe. The tandem of defeats puts Cal’s streak of losses up to a daunting eight.

After a 7-3 start to the year, Cal finds itself in a hole – one that is six consecutive losses deep. Bears fans better hope the team has shovels.

The Cougars didn’t just sweep, they vacuumed, mopped the floors and neatly tidied up to take home the 3-0 win. With top tier communication and determined looks on their faces Washington State was unrivaled compared to what appeared to be a group of intimidated Bears.

The Bears head into the weekend with two exciting games to look forward to. A team of blue and gold Bears will be battling Washington State and University of Washington.
