Droste led the polls into the early morning hours Wednesday as votes were counted, and secured 56.05 percent of the vote as of press time about 2 a.m., with all precincts reporting.

Berkeley City Council's District 8 incumbent Lori Droste had her complaint over posters from opposing candidate Russ Tilleman dismissed Sept. 20 by the California Fair Political Practices Commission, or FPPC, because of insufficient evidence.

Tilleman filed a report with the Berkeley Police Department about the matter on Monday. On the same day the incumbent city councilmember Lori Droste filed a sworn complaint to the Fair Political Practices Commission, or FPPC, alleging these posters committed the violation of “unidentified advertisement or mailer.”

Half of the city council could see a change come November, and there are fourteen people running in total for the four district seats.

In the past, BPD has had success using footage provided from community members’ security systems to assist with investigations, according to its website. This program is intended to aid officers in more promptly identifying security footage that could potentially help officers follow leads, identify suspects and investigate crime, according to the BPD website.\

One factor for many voters this November is a candidate’s endorsements. Individuals of local and national renown have weighed in on the slew of candidates vying for four Berkeley City Council seats in the Nov. 6 election.

Russ Tilleman, an activist and former business owner, announced his candidacy for Berkeley City Council’s District 8 seat — currently held by Lori Droste — on April 29.

Two competing proposals to modify current police accountability measures are in the works, focusing on regulating police policies and practices.
