Professional Degree Supplemental Tuition

The UC Board of Regents convened virtually Wednesday to discuss changes to the UC admissions process, professional program tuition and sources of external funding, among other topics.

At its virtual meeting Wednesday, the UC Board of Regents discussed allocations of state general funds and sustainable practices.

BAMPFA has adopted an ambitious plan for achieving a targeted budget deficit reduction of $582,000 set by the recently unveiled campus fiscal year 2018 budget, including plans to generate $850,000 in new revenue, increase its endowment by $5 million and reduce the number of scheduled exhibitions as part of cost-saving measures.

The campus has unveiled its response to an imposing financial crisis with its 2017-18 budget, highlighted by more than $20 million in cuts to academic, research and administrative expenses.

UC Berkeley has instituted supplemental tuition for at least six graduate programs over the last five years at a time when the base tuition fee throughout the UC system is frozen.

The UC Board of Regents will convene Wednesday and Thursday to vote on the addition of a student adviser position to the board and a professional degree supplemental tuition increase.

UC Berkeley Law School Dean Sujit Choudhry discussed the potential fee increase at a public town hall Monday at the school. He presented what he called a “modest increase” and outlined reasons for his proposal.
