Berkeley Police Department officers received a call for assistance from California Highway Patrol at 12:50 p.m. Thursday following a car accident that occurred in close proximity to Berkeley Marina.

According to documents obtained by Berkeleyside, the woman was stabbed by her son more than 20 times, and the attack was "unrelenting." The woman told the police her son had mental health issues and was taking medication.

According to the Nixle alert, the suspect has been identified as Mark Edward Jekabson — a white male, 42, 5'11", about 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
