For the average UC Berkeley student, the clusters of street vendors that line Telegraph Avenue are a familiar sight: collections of tie-dye T-shirts and woven bracelets adorning tables at nearly every corner.

Kathmandu Market — previously a convenience store for the past 40 years — has opened its doors on Telegraph Avenue as Kathmandu Market and Deli, adding a Nepalese twist to the diverse food culture of South Berkeley.

UC Berkeley’s University Partnership Program has signed an $8 million contract with Peet’s Coffee & Tea to help fund student programs across campus over the course of 10 years.

Ordering coffee along Berkeley’s campus is an everyday act for thousands. Though this upscale coffee shop at 2410 Channing Way, which opened Sunday, has a familiar menu and seating, its eight baristas from seven different countries set it apart.

The space formerly occupied by Shakespeare & Co. bookstore, one of the oldest independent bookstores in Berkeley, will retain a piece of its literary namesake with the opening of Romeo’s Coffee this fall.

A two-alarm fire that tore through an apartment complex on Dwight Way Nov. 22 is still under investigation, according to Berkeley Fire Department deputy chief Avery Webb.
