While the graduating class of 2022 was excited for commencement — the first in-person, campuswide ceremony in three years — some students and attendees were disappointed with how it turned out. 

It’s these “outside of the classroom experiences” that make a student well-rounded, as well as competitive for companies and graduate schools, according to the Interim Executive Director of the Career Center Sue Harbour.

Despite the surge in applications from California freshmen in underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, many say that diversity on campus is inadequate and that resources for those students are not enough.

Campus senior Nanki Ahuja formed Business Transfer Network, or BTN, during her first semester as a transfer student in the spring of 2020. She noticed that without guaranteed campus housing and two years of undergraduate experience at Berkeley, transfer students were sometimes unable to form strong communities on campus.
