Cal baseball travels to the revamped Pac-12 tournament as the lowest seed

Even though the 33-18-1 Bears will remain in Tucson as the sixth seed facing Utah in the inaugural Pac-12 softball tournament, Cal concluded its regular season on a high note, winning two of three against the Arizona Wildcats.

Cal has a polished resume thus far, winning games against No. 2 UCLA, No. 24 Utah and No. 8 Stanford. The Bears have to take care of business in Tucson but hope to enter the looming “second season” with high spirits and energy.

In a game that was truly reflective of their year, the Bears just did not have it in them to compete with Washington State. The Bears finished the season with an all-time low 3-29 record, going 2-18 in Pac-12 play and ending the year on a 16-game losing streak.

This year’s Big Series proved to be no competition at all as the Bears dropped each game of the series, going 0-3 against the Cardinal.

The Bears travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to face off against the Runnin’ Utes for their second game in the Pac-12 tournament.

Though Cal did not earn a bid to the NCAA tournament, its effort and confidence will carry into next season.

The Bears ended the regular season with losses to the Aggies and the Cardinal, adding to their 2-15 record. But the game is still afoot, as Cal will take on Colorado in the Pac-12 quarterfinals.

The blue and gold had an opportunity to steal a second consecutive win in the tournament but couldn’t finish on a consistent basis.

On Wednesday, the Bears returned to Las Vegas as the 11th seed — this time to give the sixth-seeded Cardinal a 76-58 beating.
