Cal men’s soccer nearly made a rare blemish on No. 1 Washington’s undefeated record, but lost to a late goal by the Huskies in the last nine seconds of the match. On Sunday, the blue and gold faced Oregon State, where they were able to come back in the latter half of the game to finish the weekend off with a draw.

If anything, Cal was supposed to have the slight advantage in the matchup against the University of San Francisco. However, the 5-1 loss that the Bears took tells a different story.

Following a rather difficult run on the road — with two losses and a tie — the Cal men’s soccer team has returned home for a match against its neighbors across the Bay: the University of San Francisco Dons.

After a rather dissatisfying loss against UCLA this past weekend on the road, the team is returning to Bear territory looking to get back on a winning streak with its match against the Saint Mary's University Gaels.

To the Bears' relief and the Lancers' demise, Cal persisted, protecting its 1-0 lead until the whistle blew, awarding it its first win and shutout of the season — and Leonard Griffin's first regular season win as a Cal head coach.

With the Bears’ current record and the Lancer’s inability to successfully perform on the road, this weekend go either way.

The upcoming season opener at Cal State Fullerton and the game against Villanova will either solidify or crumble the hope Cal fans have for this new and improved soccer team.

Coming off of a rather disappointing season last year, this exhibition series was the perfect opportunity for newcomers to showcase what they can offer.

After dominating the past two swim meets, the Bears finally found a team that matches their competitive edge. This past weekend, No. 6 Cal raced against No 1. Virginia in a meet indicative of the competition to come later this season.

If there’s any time for the Bear offense to wake up and its defense to continue stellar play, it is against a Utah team limping into Friday’s matchup.
