Patil was one of only 10 teachers selected by TIME to be recognized. According to TIME’s website, the Innovative Teachers project profiles 10 teachers who are “changing the landscape of education in America.” 

Students, families and faculty of Alameda County school districts are gearing up to collectively travel 286,900 miles this week, their goal of reaching the distance to the moon using alternative modes of transportation.

First started as an after-school enrichment class, the Berkeley Chess School has since grown into a Bay Area institution, serving 125 schools and more than 7,000 students yearly — but is now financially struggling due to the coronavirus.

Oxford Elementary School is set to relocate to the Berkeley Unified School District West Campus facility by fall 2020 because of potential safety risks.

On Wednesday, more than 100 Berkeley educators and community members attended the Berkeley Unified School District, or BUSD, board meeting as a campaign action item amid ongoing negotiations for educator contracts.

Berkeley Unified School District received results of a geotechnical report declaring Oxford Elementary School a hazard in the event of a natural disaster.

Hawley was active in local politics and organizations, such as the League of Women Voters and the Berkeley Baby Book Project, which she helped found.
