Vegans and meat eaters alike crowded the Bizerkeley Food Festival today at in celebration of veganism, animal advocacy and local plant-based eats. 

East Bay teachers and parents met Wednesday afternoon to speak out against the Biden administration’s plans to reopen the majority of schools within its first 100 days of office.

In the context of rehabilitation, art therapy is a tool for clients who are not entirely ready or completely able to articulate their emotions. It offers them a palette and a platform to represent their thoughts without having to string together words and without fear of saying the wrong thing.

News vans and organizers congregated while helicopters circled overhead early Thursday morning at Oakland Technical High School for a picketing demonstration. The demonstration kicked off Oakland’s districtwide teachers’ strike, where teachers from Berkeley High School also joined in solidarity.

Chants of “Ms. Felaraca back now” and “No Nazis, No KKK, Ms. Felarca has got to stay” rang outside the Berkeley Unified School District office Wednesday evening as students, teachers and community members rallied for the reinstatement of Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School teacher Yvette Felarca.

Students from both UC Berkeley and Oakland Technical High School organized two demonstrations on campus Wednesday – one to protest proposed tuition hikes and the other to advocate admitting more Oakland public school students to UC Berkeley.

UC President Janet Napolitano has launched an initiative Feb. 25 that aims to foster a close-knit relationship with the city of Oakland – her new neighborhood since taking office in late September – through helping local businesses and supporting Oakland public high school students.
