The Latinx Caucus at UC Berkeley submitted a letter to Chancellor Carol Christ on Jan. 12 regarding the needs and issues facing Latine students. The letter emphasized finding a new temporary space for their Latinx Student Resource Center, or LSRC, which has been without a meeting space since Dec. 8, alongside demands for financial aid reevaluation, affordable housing and further retention efforts.

Omi Salas-SantaCruz, a former UC Berkeley employee and Ph.D. student in the campus School of Education, filed a lawsuit against campus and School of Education Professor Patricia Baquedano-López on Nov. 17 alleging discrimination on the basis of their nonbinary identity. 

At a college with thousands of students, it can seem difficult to find a community. However, communities on campus have coalesced to offer support.

Students walking through Sproul Plaza say they have heard offensive rhetoric from preachers who stand on the edge of campus.

On the “Pride” page of the University Health Services, or UHS, website are the mental health resources campus offers for queer and trans, or QT, students. 

While transgender students on campus have faced obstacles to their safety, many activist groups are supporting the trans community. However, there is more work to be done.

About 130 people from various organizations came together during the campus Filipinx Summit Nov. 17 to discuss the future of the community and advocacy efforts for a Filipinx Studies program.

The UC Berkeley Disabled Students' Program, or DSP, held its second art showcase Thursday as the culmination of Disability Awareness Month celebrations throughout November.
