The Alameda County Board of Supervisors is set to vote on local tenant protection laws for the unincorporated areas of Alameda County on Feb. 28. However, there is increasing concern that the hard-fought protections will not be adopted due to a lack of support from the board by a razor-thin margin.

The Berkeley Rent Stabilization Board held a meeting with several presentations, including one honoring Moms 4 Housing activist Dominique Walker with a city proclamation and another naming Feb. 20 as “Moms 4 Housing Day.”

Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguín held a press conference Feb. 20 to unveil the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act, a city ordinance aimed at preserving affordable housing in Berkeley.

Both women were unhoused mothers and needed a place for them and their kids to stay, however, they were also hoping to make a statement about the current housing crisis in the Bay Area.
