This week, “This Is Us” set the stage for what looks to be a very heartbreaking story for Randall and Beth. “Young Sheldon,” on the other hand, opted to give viewers a dollop of warmth, and “Modern Family” took a one-week break.

This week's "This is Us" is perhaps the biggest tear-jerker of all the Season 2 episodes that have premiered so far. Every storyline and every piece of dialogue is crafted with a care and delicacy that appeared to be missing in the more recent episodes.

This week is about dads: One of them is emboldened by his indefatigable Halloween spirit, while the other is empowered by his sheer persistence to unite his two children.

This week, the central story arc of "Modern Family" deals with Manny (Rico Rodriguez) finally moving to college. Yeah, Manny, the cute kid who wore his heart on his sleeve back in Season 1, is now a fully functioning adult. Anybody feel old yet?

“This Is Us,” the drama set around the past and present of the Pearson family, returns with its almost supernatural power to make us cry.
