Hoping to rebound from recent losses, the Bears had high hopes for their games against UCLA and USC. After two more losses, however, Cal now sits at a league-worst 16-loss streak.

The last time fans saw this matchup Oct. 21, Cal delivered a surprisingly aggressive and sturdy fight, forcing the Trojans to fight on and fight hard for every point.

The tandem adds to the youth movement in the East Bay, where Cal (7-17) sports only one senior – opposite Sydney Lilomaiava.

Fans in attendance on Sunday afternoon couldn’t believe what they were seeing. The blue and gold won the first two sets, forcing Utah to burn four timeouts.

Both Colorado and Utah swept Cal off its feet in earlier matchups this season. Fortunately for the blue and gold, those losses came on the road – potentially opening the door for a revenge tour back home.

The Bears were swept in Tucson, just as they were in Tempe. The tandem of defeats puts Cal’s streak of losses up to a daunting eight.

After a 7-3 start to the year, Cal finds itself in a hole – one that is six consecutive losses deep. Bears fans better hope the team has shovels.

Regardless of a final 1-3 score and a heartfelt loss being handed to Cal, this win was no easy task for the Wolverines. The blue and gold hope to shine brighter than ever this weekend, as the Bears head into the Cal tournament as the host, giving it the home court advantage.

Starting the 2022 season off on the right foot, the Bears swiftly took down Army during the first set with a final score of 25-16. But the final game of the tournament against UC San Diego didn’t turn out in Cal’s favor.
