The entire night from start to finish was a breathtaking ode to Japanese Breakfast’s journey as a group, and it beautifully celebrated Zauner’s deserved success.

With the band’s latest, a radiant new album titled Jubilee, Zauner continues to reach new heights, arriving on the other side of grief with her most ambitious work to date.

Over the course of the night, the Fox was filled with the sounds of not only guitar, bass and drums, but also keyboards, recorder, synth, cowbell, harmonica and various other instruments.

As the shimmery, layered synths washed over the room, Zauner led the audience in remembering the earth-shattering heartbreak of a crush’s dismissal.

Danceable, yet ethereally dreamy, built totally upon science-fiction pretenses yet still tangible and realistic, and interactive yet still grandly cinematic, Japanese Breakfast ended the show with a performance that lodged itself firmly into the vertex of the three modes that it had operated under all night.
