The Berkeley Police Accountability Board, or PAB, met Wednesday to review materials being used to recruit the permanent director of police accountability and the police accountability investigator for the PAB.

During Tuesday’s Berkeley City Council meeting, city deputy manager David White presented his office’s budget recommendations for fiscal year 2022. In the report, White said the city should allocate $8 million to expand its Specialized Care Unit, or SCU.   

The city of Berkeley looks to implement the Police Accountability Board, or PAB, to increase transparency and accountability of the Berkeley Police Department.

Berkeley residents voted on eight city measures on their November ballots, with Measures FF, GG, II, JJ, KK, LL and MM passing, as of press time, while Measure HH appears to have failed to secure enough votes to pass.

As bosses of our elected officials, we must tell them what we want and hold them accountable when they don’t deliver, whether by email, phone or protest.

Berkeley voters will be weighing in on a variety of local measures in November, from a tax to aid emergency response to a review board to increase police accountability.
