After more than a year of debate over the bill, SB 320, the only hurdle left is the governor’s approval. The bill passed the California State Assembly on Wednesday and went back to the state Senate, where it was passed Thursday morning.

The bill has been sent to the Assembly Committee on Higher Education, where it must be approved before being sent to the Committee on Appropriations and then possibly reaching the Assembly floor for a full vote.

The bill passed in the state Senate in January, Nava said, and must go through the Committee on Higher Education and the Committee on Health before reaching the Assembly’s floor.

Campus political party SQUELCH! did not file any candidate for this year’s ASUC elections, but Marandah Field-Elliot registered as the party’s signatory for this year.

In spring 2016, campus senior Adiba Khan urged the campus to offer medical abortion services at the Tang Center — now, the same request is being put forth in SB 320, which was introduced February 2017 and read in the California State Senate again Jan. 22.

United States Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced her intent Thursday to review guidelines under Title IX dealing with sexual assault in schools and universities, stating that current guidelines deny due process to students accused of sexual misconduct.

Berkeley City Council is scheduled to consider amendments to the Group Living Accommodations Ordinance during its next regular meeting May 30.

At its regular Wednesday meeting, the ASUC Senate passed five resolutions, moved eight resolutions into committees and heard from Carol Christ, campus interim executive vice chancellor and provost, and Steve Sutton, campus interim vice chancellor of student affairs, regarding the Master Housing Plan Task Force Report.

The ASUC senate met with City Council District 4 candidate Ben Gould, moved three resolutions into committees and passed two resolutions reforming the governing documents and and bylaws of the ASUC at its regular Wednesday meeting.
