The Bears head to Austin, Texas for the first round of nationals to face San Diego on Friday after finishing out their season with a barely-winning 12-9 record.

Despite splitting another pair of Pac-12 weekend matches, the Bears looked confident in LA this weekend. Beating UCLA 5-2 and narrowly losing out to USC 4-3, the Bears seem to be righting the ship.

After a rain-enforced break, Cal women’s tennis is set to come back to the court this weekend, facing two more Pac-12 opponents in USC and UCLA. Cal’s season has been riddled with rain delays and rescheduling, making it hard to get on-court time to prepare for tough matches.

This weekend, Cal traveled to Utah and Colorado to begin Pac-12 play. Going 1-1, the Bears played two impressive matches to improve their overall season record to 4-5.

After a doubles point and singles match came down to the wire, Michigan clinched the win against Cal 4-3.

The Bears looked confident out on the courts on Friday against SDSU. Now, Cal steadies itself for No. 3 Michigan, hoping to use the newly found momentum to secure a crucial win.

It seems as though Cal women’s tennis’ biggest opponent this semester has been the rain. Slated to play San Diego State on Friday, a big question mark hovers over the Bears’ Hellman Tennis Complex with more rain predicted to end the week.

As Shelton was battling it out in Melbourne, college teams across the country, including No. 11 Cal, participated in the ITA Kickoff Weekend, vying for a spot at the Indoor Nationals in Seattle. While the Bears beat Princeton 4-1 on Friday, San Diego got the better of Cal on Saturday, also with a 4-1 win.

The No. 11 Bears play Princeton on Friday; if they win, they will face the winning team of the Georgia Tech-USD match come Saturday.

Playing one of the most exciting matches of the day, Alsola helped the Bears to edge a 6-1 win over Santa Barbara in their dual match home opener.
