For corporations, the need generated by the COVID-19 pandemic is an opportunity to update their policies to better serve marginalized communities, according to faculty from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.

Among Haas School of Business class of 2018 graduates who are employed full-time, only 38 percent are female-identifying, according to the Haas Full-Time Employment Report. Only 28.6 percent of students in the campus College of Engineering are female-identifying.

Over the past two years, Haas School of Business has experienced a downturn in minority student enrollment for its Full-time MBA program, and has recently released a report intended to address this decline.

The UC Berkeley Haas School of Business MBA program was recently ranked the second best in the United States and the third best worldwide for female graduates.

And while signs of the third wave of feminism seem, at times, omnipresent, the corporate world continues to be dominated by men.

On Monday, a universitywide group of black student organizations denounced the University of California’s investment in private corrections companies, calling for divestment and investment strategy reforms.

Forty-three percent of last fall’s incoming full-time MBA students were women, and approximately 41 percent of this year’s incoming class will be women. This will bring the total number of women in the program to an all-time high.

Laura Tyson, former dean of the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, has been appointed as the inaugural director for the school’s new Institute for Business and Social Impact.
