UC Berkeley opened its new Disability Cultural Community Center, or DCC, on Tuesday in the Hearst Field Annex, becoming one of the first college campuses to create a center dedicated solely to the disabled community.

As the COVID-19 pandemic persists and remote learning continues, campus organizations have been working to remotely support students with disabilities and plan for their return to campus.

The ASUC Student Advocate’s Office has received nearly 60 applications to its Cal-Pays Copay Fund, which supports students with chronic conditions and disabilities, since its launch April 3.

The Space Assignments and Capital Improvements Committee, or SACI, is forming a subcommittee to analyze a proposal for creating a disability cultural center on campus and identifying a space for the center.

About 30 people rallied outside of California Hall Monday at 2 p.m. to show their support for the approval of an allocated space for a campus Disability Cultural Center.

A petition to reinstate attorney Prerna Lal in their position at the Undocumented Student Program started Feb. 14 and has received 732 signatures out of its 800-signature goal as of press time.
