In line with campus’s legacy as the home of the disability rights movement, the Inclusive Recreation Committee was formed at UC Berkeley in 2019 to improve accessibility and give students with disabilities a say in the structure of Recreation Sports programs.

The ASUC Disabled Students Commission, or DSC, met Friday through Zoom to discuss topics including issues in accommodation requests, redefining basic needs and emergency backup power for students with disabilities.

The ASUC Disabled Students Ad Hoc Committee, or DSC, was established as an ASUC commission Oct. 14, granting it a larger platform to advocate for UC Berkeley students with disabilities.

At one time, there were dozens of wheelchair users on campus, said campus senior Alena Morales. By the time she got into UC Berkeley in 2016, she said she was the only wheelchair user admitted into undergraduate studies that year.

The Berkeley Student Cooperative Board of Directors passed operation guidelines July 8 on house and room capacity amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Berkeley Student Cooperative is going to have only 30% occupancy this summer in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning some houses may be facing closures.

The program is the only one of its kind on campus, according to No Limits personal trainer Rachel Kahn, and it provides undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in the Disabled Students' Program with one-on-one personal training at no cost.
