UC Berkeley’s fall 2017 new student convocation was much more a lively, raucous concert than a typical series of speeches.

6,500 new first year and 3,000 new transfer students will participate in the new Golden Bear Orientation, or GBO, beginning Tuesday morning as a part of the Golden Bear Experience, a four-part program created for all incoming undergraduate students.

A protest on Monday at noon inside the Cal Student Store, organized by the Queer Alliance Resource Center, or QARC, and the bridges Multicultural Resource Center, took an unexpected turn when the store locked all of its entrances about 30 minutes into the protest.

On Wednesday, students from the Queer Alliance and Resource Center, or QARC, and bridges Multicultural Resource Center gathered at the office of the dean of students and demanded the organizations be relocated from their current locations in the Eshleman Hall basement.

During its Wednesday meeting, the ASUC addressed questions of transparency and student representation in the search for UC Berkeley's next chancellor ahead of Campus Day.

Daryl Ansel, a campus alumnus, will become the new ASUC executive director of the student union starting July 11.
