Berkeley City Council plans to return to in-person meetings starting Dec. 6, allowing for remote participation from the public.

The Berkeley City Council voted to approve the addition of the Fair Workweek Employment Standards ordinance to the Berkeley Municipal Code on Monday.

The vote to approve the permanent appointment of Berkeley Police Department Interim Chief Jennifer Louis was postponed during a City Council meeting Tuesday amid public outcry surrounding alleged misconduct within the police department.

Allegations of misconduct against Berkeley Police Department, or BPD, were brought to Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguín and City Council Thursday, prompting an external investigation.

Incumbent Rashi Kesarwani has been declared victorious for Berkeley City Council District 1 with 50.03% of the votes as of 1:19 a.m. Saturday with 100% of the precincts accounted for.

Berkeley residents could vote on three city measures during the midterm elections. Measures M and N are looking to pass, while Bond Measure L has seemingly failed to garner enough votes. 

Mark Humbert is in the lead for Berkeley City Council District 8 with 64.05% of the votes as of 5 p.m. Wednesday with 100% of the precincts accounted for.

UC Berkeley alumnus and incumbent Rigel Robinson has won the race for Berkeley City Council District 7 with 56 votes as of 7:40 a.m. Wednesday with 100% of the precincts accounted for. 

Jewish students at UC Berkeley continue to feel targeted and look to student government for support in light of rising antisemitic rhetoric on a national level. 

Community members came together to celebrate the grand opening of Berkeley Way Apartments and the Hope Center — the largest affordable housing development for low-income and unhoused people in Berkeley’s history.
