After living in a trailer with his family for about four to five months, campus senior Ismael Chamu was evicted from his Hayward home Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, Alameda County Superior Court Judge Yolanda Northridge postponed the plea hearings of Ismael Chamu and Peter Estrada.

Ismael Chamu and Peter Estrada, two UC Berkeley students arrested last week on charges of vandalism, were arraigned at the Wiley M. Manuel Courthouse Monday afternoon on charges of alleged felony vandalism more than $400 and misdemeanor possession of tools to commit vandalism.

Berkeley Police Department arrested Ismael Chamu on Thursday evening in connection with vandalism that recently appeared on the south side of campus. Chamu is a campus student who alleged BPD officers racially profiled and unlawfully detained him last June.

“My rights were not read. They did not give me counsel. Nobody knew. I literally just disappeared,” Chamu alleged.

UC Berkeley administrators announced in a campuswide email Monday key Spring 2017 financial deadlines associated with the cancel for nonpayment policy, or CNP, a policy introduced in fall that was met with widespread criticism.
