Interfraternity Council

After an arduous period of campaigning, confronting and rewriting, the Greek Opportunity Grant Reform Act was passed unanimously by the ASUC Senate at its general meeting Oct. 19.

In March 2022, the ASUC revoked a grant offering funding to campus fraternities, yet a resolution recently introduced by ASUC Senator Josh Lee would reinstate funding for the Cal Interfraternity Council, effectively overturning the March bill. 

The ASUC recently proposed the Berkeley Community Angel Shots Initiative, which would fund the distribution of fliers in Berkeley’s restaurants, bars and eateries to spread awareness for sexual harassment and sexual violence prevention measures. 

ASUC officials introduced four bills and announced a number of measures and events at the ASUC Senate’s regular meeting on Wednesday.

Controversy erupted at an ASUC Senate meeting Wednesday over sexual violence and sexual harassment, or SVSH, issues and a Greek life resolution proposed by ASUC Senator Joshua Lee.

Three UC Berkeley fraternities have been officially unrecognized by the university due hazing-related activities prohibited by the Code of Student Conduct. 

During this year’s move-out season, I have hope that we can collectively mobilize behind the Cooperative Reuse program to redistribute thousands of furniture items and leave Berkeley a more sustainable place.

On Friday, the Elevate Cal coalition announced the final member of its slate of ASUC Senate candidates for the upcoming elections.

Through various social media posts, UC Berkeley students raised concerns about large social gatherings occurring on and near campus, alleging a lack of compliance with COVID-19 health orders.
