n an interview with The Daily Californian, French indie filmmakers Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret described how they moved from filling the shots to calling the shots — and who inspired them to do so. 

Given its heavy subject matter, “A Good Person” may not seem fit for the faint of heart. But for every graphic depiction of desperation and darkness, Braff surprises his audience with tasteful moments of humor and hope.

With crisp cinematography and tactful dialogue, Davy Chou's "Return to Seoul" tells a thoughtful story about curiosity, culture and identity. But, as the director explained in an interview with the Daily Californian, the story isn’t his.

“I was really interested in lighting. I liked the physics of light and the philosophy of how lighting could change the way a space felt,” Valladao spoke of her early interactions with the field of cinematography in an interview with The Daily Californian.

“Person to Person” plays with scope in an attempt to make these everyday minutia feel significant, both narratively and technically.

Every March for the past 30 years, the festival has showcased hundreds of films, proving to be the country’s most vital source for Asian cinema. This year the festival seems to offer a healthy balance of documentaries, shorts and narratives.
