College can be difficult and tiring, so it’s really important that we find ways to relieve stress and avoid burnout. Paint was all over me. My fingers were blue, the floor was brown and my camera was bombarded with hundreds of “artsy” photographs. I got in so much trouble for spilling paint all over my family’s rug, but it was all worth it.

In Berkeley, everyone was to me — as I was to them — an afterthought, a relationship preserved at night and over weekends after the day’s, or week’s, work was done.

The expectation that I may never see someone again has slowly developed into a longing hope that “later” comes sooner, that “again” holds its own.

As I watched those around me find one another and sign leases, my panic grew; in contrast to my peers, who seemed to have everything figured out from location to money to roommates, I didn’t have a tentative — or really any — plan in mind. 

This semester, I truly outdid myself. Spring 2022 was by far the busiest semester I have ever had, and I learned a lot from it.

When nobody is willing to put in the extra effort to make new friends and get to know them better, the fun fact question emerges as an alternative.
