Even though you may have only been gone for a little more than two months, a few things have changed on campus and in the town of Berkeley.

Kara Hammond, who was previously Elmwood Cafe’s manager, bought out the business and now oversees its daily operations with co-owner Eric Wright. Hammond emphasized community as one of the pillars the new business is built on.

Hannah Rose, assistant manager and director of community programs at Elmwood Cafe, said in an email that she was unable to confirm the reason for Elmwood Cafe’s closure but said the cafe is “closed for good.”

Elmwood Cafe's doors were locked and its windows were covered with brown paper as of about 2 a.m. Friday, according to Berkeleyside. The restaurant's social media pages have also been taken down. The coffee shop was open for business Thursday, Berkeleyside stated.

Despite the revolving door of businesses currently facing Elmwood, a newly opened restaurant is taking this occurrence in stride.
