The Bears will head into a week full of meets starting Wednesday for the Pac-12 Championships. Pac-12s will be the last meet of the season for some Cal swimmers, while others have either already qualified for NCAAs, or will use this meet to do so.

In Cal’s last dual meet of the season, the Bears fell short against Bay Area rival Stanford 101-161. Cal, now ranked at No. 12 in the nation, will head to the Pac-12 Championships next week.

Cal made a big splash in its last home dual meet of the season: The Bears drowned both USC and UCLA, coming away with two wins.

Swimming away from the defeat Cal suffered last weekend against Arizona State, the Bears will have their last home dual meets against USC and UCLA Friday and Saturday.

Cal women’s swim faced both University of Arizona and Arizona State University during the same weekend for back-to-back conference dual meets Jan. 20 and Jan. 21. On paper, Cal was expected to maintain its winning streak against these two teams — the Bears are ranked 11th in the nation, whereas Arizona and Arizona State are both unranked.

The Bears’ fiercest, competitor No. 1 University of Texas, posted many NCAA qualifying times, but Cal women’s swim tallied up multiple championship times.

No. 9 Cal women's swimming dove back into the water this past Friday for a nonconference dual meet against UC San Diego. Cal was back in action for the first time since winning their first two Pac-12 dual meets of the season in mid-October against Utah and Washington State.

In these winter months, the Bears have shooed off hibernation and are instead catching their prey weekend after weekend and returning home with pride and prizes.

The Bears ended day one of competition the same way they started — making waves in national times and ranks.
