UC Berkeley selected Oliver O’Reilly as the vice provost for undergraduate education and Victoria Plaut as the vice provost for faculty.

For the first time in more than 50 years, UC Berkeley may open another college — one for campus’ Division of Computing, Data Science and Society. 

While Jackie Wang had wanted to study astrophysics since kindergarten, it was not until high school that she encountered a fellow Asian American first-generation woman in aerospace, giving her hope for minorities like herself being successful in STEM.

UC Berkeley’s Division of Computing, Data Science and Society, or CDSS, nominated four associate deans with the purpose of diversifying leadership and strengthening the division’s outreach.

Before becoming UC Berkeley campus associate provost of the Division of CDSS, Jennifer Chayes led three interdisciplinary labs with Microsoft and has authored over 25 patents and 100 scientific papers.

In early May, the Harvard Data Science Review, or HDSR, assessed UC Berkeley’s leadership in the field of data science and UC Berkeley Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society, or CDSS.

UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health is launching an initiative aimed at safely facilitating the reopening of campus in fall amid the COVID-19 pandemic, campus announced May 19.

UC Berkeley faculty members from various disciplines participated in a virtual roundtable discussion Tuesday to discuss the current state of research on COVID-19, colloquially known as the coronavirus.

UC Berkeley public health professor Arthur Reingold said a resurgence of COVID-19 is nearly certain if the disease dissipates this summer in a livestream as part of a campus virtual conversation series that kicked off Friday.

Major goals for the campaign include campus housing for all freshmen, sophomores and first-year transfer students, 100 new tenure-track faculty positions and 300 new graduate fellowships.
