The return to an in-person semester in fall 2021 may be just the motivation some of us need to get more involved outside of the classroom. Romeo and Juliet couldn’t hold a candle to sports and me. We simply weren’t meant to be — the long-limbed, well-muscled Capulets to my short-legged, soft-bodied Montagues.

So when I walked into my first dance class at UC Berkeley, I wasn’t prepared for it to feel so alien.

Through dance, I’ve learned to appreciate the nuance of the Pilipinx and Pilipinx American experience, slowly and surely ridding myself of my preconceived notions of Pilipinxness.
