Confessions from UC Berkeley

We’re at the year mark since the pandemic started, and you might be losing hope in making new friends and motivation in keeping old ones.

According to my doctrine, I must quit my job as admin when this semester ends and I graduate UC Berkeley.

In 2018, I got a submission that simply read, “All the confessions that you read on this page are just reflections of how Spencer feels on the inside.”

COVID-19 is the crisis that binds us all together, which is why the Overheard at UC Berkeley banner image now reads, “Quarantined at UC Berkeley.”

When it comes down to it, there’s just one post that finds that perfect combination of conciseness, genuineness and popularity.

I wanted to select people who could carry the legacy I had cultivated, but I knew it would be hard to tell how someone would do an unfamiliar job.

“You know, looking at your name, I almost thought you were the ‘Overheard Guy,’ ” she said.

For the first time since starting the page, I tried to use my admin power to strike a deal.

It wasn’t long before I began receiving confessions about the one big subject that I should have anticipated when starting Confessions.

The simple concept – post things that were overheard on campus – proved effective, and by 2018, the Facebook group had amassed more than 46,000 followers.
