As the titular Ms. Marvel, Khan shines as a brand-new heroine struggling to navigate maturity, just as her creators are doing the same.

Good luck, fellow Marvelites! Enjoy the marathon, and more importantly "Endgame." We know we'll be stocking up on tissues and popcorn for it.

Both of our podcasts this week focus on female-centered stories, each contextualizing the main female character’s role within the larger plot. “Overdue” explores the lesser-known source material of a very popular adapted film while “The Bechdel Cast” discuss a timely and largely hyped superhero film.

Belated and ballyhooed, “Captain Marvel” sells itself on the promise of a game changer for its franchise and proceeds to bend over backward for a brand-maintenance agenda. A failure of imagination, this textureless piece of plastic is so mechanically structured it’s been made uninhabitable to any artistry or panache.

Though a majority of female superheroes were created by male writers and artists, they never fail to empower women from all backgrounds and all parts of the world. To all the women out there, on this International Women’s Day, just remember that you’re all superheroes in your own way.
