Cal women's golf

The sun was shining, the ball was flying and the Bears were biting. It was a beautiful Thursday afternoon at Menlo Country Club — perfect weather for Cal women’s golf to team with their male counterparts to face off with rival Stanford in the annual Big Match.

The blue and gold took home a tie for first place this past week, while breaking several program records en route to their victory.

Cal Women’s Golf will participate in their third event of the year on Thursday, matching up with Stanford. This match will see the women join forces with the men in a combined effort to try and best Stanford for a third time in program history.

The blue and gold travel to Seaside this weekend to co-host the Molly Collegiate Invitational.

At the invitational this weekend, the Bears competed at the University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course. Cal showed a lot of promise but eventually finished eighth out of 16 teams that competed.

Despite its ambition to qualify for the NCAA championship, Cal crumbled under pressure at the Palm Beach Gardens Regional last week at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

The Bears look to finish in the top five in Palm Beach to qualify for the NCAA Championship.

Borrelli was able to shoot under par and closed round two with a total of three under par, an outstanding performance which put her in tied fourth overall.  

Having struggled in two consecutive tournaments, the Pac-12 championships are a great opportunity for the Bears to end the season on a high.

Cal finished 10th out of 17 teams despite having the fifth-best final round of the tournament. This marks the second consecutive time that the Bears failed to finish in the top five positions.
