The UC Board of Regents reconvened Thursday to discuss UC Berkeley’s library closures, UC investment assets and more.

The UC Board of Regents reconvened Thursday to further discuss  university issues such as the ongoing academic workers’ strike, UCLA’s possible transition to the Big 10 and general community safety plans.

After months of bargaining, the United Auto Workers, or UAW, union that represents postdoctoral scholars, academic researchers, academic student employees and graduate student researchers has had enough. At 8 a.m. this morning, 48,000 academic workers across the UC system have gone on strike. As of press time, there is no end in sight.

For the first time, California will provide $15 million in ongoing funding to various academic recruitment and retention programs; however, concerns about how the funds will potentially be distributed have been raised.

UC Berkeley political geography doctoral student and Fulbright scholar William Carter was one of two university students recognized with the inaugural Regents Foster Youth Award at a UC Board of Regents meeting Thursday.

The California Senate passed Senate Constitutional Amendment, or SCA, 5 Wednesday, requiring two student votes on the UC Board of Regents.
