While ASUC elections season has been historically dominated by the two largest parties, CalSERVE and Student Action, this year’s candidate makeup has been slightly different.

During this week’s regular Wednesday ASUC Senate meeting, senators moved a new business resolution — that calls for the resignation of UC Regent Norman Pattiz — to committee for discussion, and heard from the new Chief Legal Officer, Prathyush Parasuraman.

The ASUC Senate passed a resolution that will build upon previous efforts to raise awareness about marginalized communities at its regular Wednesday meeting.

A number of ASUC executives and senators have announced their endorsement for Berkeley mayoral candidate Jesse Arreguin ahead of next week’s election.

Wednesday’s regular ASUC Senate meeting focused on the relationship between city politics and campus students, and senators took action on bills related to endorsements and the campus political climate.

The ASUC Senate held its first ever inter-semester committee meeting Thursday to discuss the permanent appointment of a chief legal officer and to debate whether to support a potential study by the city of Berkeley on the effects of banning single-use water bottles.

Megan Turrill, who was appointed chief legal officer of the ASUC for the upcoming academic year, has resigned from the position because of personal reasons.

At a Wednesday meeting, the ASUC Elections Council verified that Marandah Field-Elliot will serve as Guillermo Perez’s replacement as an ASUC senator-elect.

Guillermo Perez, an ASUC senator-elect with SQUELCH!, submitted a letter of resignation to the ASUC Judicial Council on Tuesday, according to an ASUC release.
