Adena Ishii announced her run for mayor of Berkeley on the platforms of housing and homelessness, public safety, education and aging at an event Saturday.

The League of Women Voters of Berkeley Albany Emeryville hosted a collaborative forum on Monday for BUSD school board candidates.

Berkeley residents had a chance to vote on seven local measures — three Alameda County measures, four city of Berkeley measures — on their November ballots. All passed as of press time about 2 a.m.

Candidates running for the Berkeley Rent Stabilization Board in the upcoming November elections gathered at a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters to answer prewritten and audience questions about affordable housing and landlord-tenant relations Wednesday evening.

The forum, held at Berkeley City College was organized by League of Women Voters, or LWV, and Berkeley NAACP. LWV president Adena Ishii hosted the forum, and four candidates of District 1 –– Mary Behm-Steinberg, Rashi Kesarwani, Igor Tregub and Margo Schueler.

Measure O will issue $135 million in city bonds to create and preserve affordable housing for Berkeley’s low-income residents, while Measure P will raise the property transfer tax from 1.5 percent to 2.5 percent on the top one-third of property sales to increase funds for homeless services.
