Berkeley Unified School District’s first meeting of the year was held on Wednesday, marked by continued debate over the future of the District’s 1130 Oxford Street property, formerly Oxford Elementary, closed due to its high risk in the event of an earthquake.

Berkeley Unified School District, or BUSD’s, Board of Education officially kicked off Black History Month at their meeting Wednesday.

Jewish students at UC Berkeley continue to feel targeted and look to student government for support in light of rising antisemitic rhetoric on a national level. 

Berkeley Hillel, along with the UC Berkeley Center for Jewish Studies and the Chancellor’s Committee on Jewish Student Life and Campus Climate, published an educational video March 18 to educate viewers about anti-Semitism and how to address it.

The Antisemitism Education Initiative, a pilot program at UC Berkeley, received a $25,000 grant from the national nonprofit Academic Engagement Network, or AEN, on Sept. 10.

Anti-Semitic posters were found outside of Eshleman Hall this week — an incident that has been met with widespread condemnation from members of the campus Jewish community and the campus administration.

Since Wednesday, multiple students and faculty have reported the presence of posters throughout campus that were determined by UC Berkeley administration to contain anti-Semitic rhetoric.

On Tuesday, UC Berkeley suspended an erroneously approved student-led DeCal called “Palestine: A Settler Colonial Analysis” that many in the Jewish community alleged was politically bent.

At least five hate-speech posters — with at least two naming six current and former UC Berkeley students for their involvement in either the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement or Students for Justice in Palestine — were found plastered at various sites around campus Monday.
