Wheeldon’s choreography allows the dancers to create a sense of depth in each of their characters.

For “Nutcracker,” the dazzling spectacle and expert dancing are what have been keeping lovers of the arts coming back year after year.  

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Chahal said his voice mattered in the professional world, but he had to “find nourishment from somewhere else.” And that was through his art.

The Mariinsky Ballet and orchestra combined multiple mediums of art to constantly challenge the level of perfection that companies can achieve.

Through inventive choreography and the sheer skill and versatility of the performers onstage, “Mozart Dances” was a rose-colored, audiovisual sensation, creating an immersive experience for audiences of all levels of classical music enthusiasm. 

“In folclórico, you can choreograph a melodrama, for example, like a wedding, like a fight between families or some sort of grand event in someone’s life,” Magaña said. “What I decided to do is put something of (the) LGBTQ community’s story into our shows.”

At first glance, this intervention may seem out of place and random. But little details such as this are truly able to capture the unpredictable and avant-garde spirit of Björk.

Sporting minimalistic set design and magnificent lighting throughout, “Lyric Voices” takes the audience on trips to outer space, the glowing world of technology and a geometric interpretation of opera.
