Prior to playing Washington State on Saturday, No. 21 Cal (10-0) will host long-standing archenemy and defending national champion, No. 1 Stanford, on Thursday.

No. 21 Cal volleyball wrapped up its nonconference slate with back-to-back wins against Saint Mary’s to improve to stay undefeated.

The Bears are undefeated and this week marked the first time Cal volleyball has been named part of the nation’s top 25 list since 2013.

On Friday, Cal, which is now 8-0, took its wins in matches against Buffalo, 3-0, and North Dakota State, 3-1.

Although the Bears are off to a relatively slow start, their upcoming weekend of play with matchups against No. 11 UC Davis and No. 6 Pacific will prove whether the program truly possesses strength.

The Bears haven't seen a 6-0 start to the season since 2013, the same year that Cal made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

The Bears’ weekend sweep was one for the books. Cal fans, knock on wood if you haven’t already. This 2019 season may just be the beginning of a new era for Cal volleyball.

Savannah Rennie earned the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after leading her team to a season-opening 3-0 sweep at the Ram Volleyball Classic.
