Winning 42-39, Cal beat its conference opponent, Washington State, with tremendous defensive performances. Recording two defensive touchdowns and six sacks, the Bears were led by the defensive side of the ball Saturday.

Cal (3-4) took on USC (6-2) in its fifth Pac-12 competition of the season on Saturday afternoon. In a high-scoring heartbreaker for fans, the Bears lost 50-49.

The Bears lost against ranked conference opponent Utah, 34-14. This marks their second loss in a row and their third loss against fellow Pac-12 teams.

Cal will head to Utah to face the No. 16 Utes for their fourth in-conference competition of the season.

At times I am asked, “why would anyone care?” about football. After some reflection, I came to the understanding that there are a variety of reasons why I personally adore football, and I believe so many others do too.

As a sophomore, Jeremiah Earby is one of Cal’s most promising young stars, and he is ambitious and excited about his goals for the future on and off the field.

Although Trond Grizzell had an unconventional journey to college football, as a redshirt sophomore, he is demonstrating undeniable improvement and confidence on the field.

Particularly in the wake of the dismantling of the Pac-12, it is understandable that Cal fans are concerned about the future of the program. However, it is incorrect to think that the Bears haven’t had long stints of success in the past, and therefore it is not impossible for them to achieve this again.

My loyalty never wavered to my team. This is why when the transfer portal was launched in 2018, and rose to profound popularity in the following years, I was initially very upset.
