I found myself amidst the expected chaos of a large transportation hub, with the familiar hum of spoken English replaced with rapid dialects that my mind could not comprehend. Strangers bustled around me, suitcases jostled by, the distant roar of planes flying off throbbed through the airport,  as I remained paralyzed in the labyrinth of pedestrian traffic.

The tender return acts as an escape from the chaos of now. Grabbing at all we can keep, we are greedy for time. For what we had, clutching it in our ironclad grip of longing until it trickles through our hands

The tendency to doubt one’s academic legitimacy or success — otherwise known as impostor syndrome — seems to occur most frequently among transfer students. It’s a persistent insecurity that persuades us we don’t belong...because we did not begin on the same four-year track as most of our undergraduate peers.

Wilson stresses that the neglect by the university to address spousal and families’ housing rights emphasizes its failure not only to provide enough housing for students — an issue for which UC Berkeley has been under intense scrutiny — but to provide safe housing.
