First on the Bears’ schedule for the weekend is Oregon with a start time of 5 p.m. Friday. The Ducks are 2-3 going into conference play, one game under .500 — just like the Bears are. Both teams will be fighting not only to start conference play 1-0 but also to be at the .500 mark on the season.

The Bears’ ability to close conference 3-4 after a four-game losing streak to start the season shows the relentlessness of the team and their ability to fight back. A three-game winning streak going into conference play means a lot for Cal.

The Bears’ unfortunate 0-4 start to this season was snapped Friday when Cal beat UC Davis with a final score of 16-13. The close win may be what Cal needed moving forward as the team inches closer to its first conference game against Oregon in a week.

The three-goal victory wasn’t an easy one, though, for Cal. The Aggies went on a 4-0 run starting at the 19:14 mark in the second half, cutting the Bears’ lead down to only one point with less than 15 minutes to go.

Cal lacrosse is off to a rough start to the 2019 season, with its first two weekends of nonconference play both ending winless. This weekend, the Bears will be hungry to end the losing streak as they take on UC Davis on Friday at home, with the game scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

The most embarrassing part about the turnovers in this affair was that only five of the Bears’ turnovers were caused by the Aztecs, meaning they had a whopping 17 unforced errors in the match.

The Bears will be hoping to turn around their scoring troubles from last weekend with a fresh start against two more nonconference opponents. The team has a few improvements to make going into this weekend’s matches.

The Sacramento Kings add the starting wing they’ve been looking for with Harrison Barnes as they make their final push to make the playoffs for the first time in 13 years.

Teamwork will be a focus for the Bears moving forward to produce a higher-scoring offense, keep more goals out of their own net and hopefully produce better results.

With many starters returning on the offensive end, the Bears should be able to improve on scoring and will look to net more goals against both Michigan and Denver this weekend.
